I wanted to share a few words in regard to what occurred this past Friday in Newtown, CT. My first reaction upon hearing the news was one of complete shock. How could someone do something so terrible to innocent little children? Each and every one of them was someone’s baby, someone’s sibling, and/or someone’s whole world. The same goes for all of the adults who gave their lives while attempting to protect those of others, they are true heros in my eyes.
Since Friday, I have learned that multiple people in my community are connected to Sandy Hook and the town of Newtown, which was something I did not expect. When news is just on the TV, you don’t necessarily feel very connected to it, it’s not occurring directly in your life, and it might not feel completely real to you. However, when you hear that someone you know personally went to the school or has relatives in that area, your perspective changes and it all becomes much more real.
My news feeds on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. have been filled for the past few days with loving words and prayers to all those affected by this tragedy. It’s amazing to see how people band together in difficult times like this to support one another. I posted this on Friday afternoon on my personal Facebook page. These words still ring true to me:
“Never forget to tell people just how much they mean to you, you never know when it could be the last chance to tell them. Healing & loving prayers going out to all of the individuals and families affected by today’s horrific shooting. Show your love ♥”
Today, students at my school are wearing green and white ribbons to show their support for Sandy Hook. I’ll be wearing my green bow of course.
The twenty children and all of the adults who lost their lives that morning will never be forgotten.
♥ Forever in our hearts ♥
