This has been an absolutely crazy and busy summer. I’ve been juggling work, spending time with friends, fulfilling any and all family obligations, and maintaining the blog. It is definitely not easy, but it is SO worth it. My friend Julie and I were texting each other earlier this month, after each of us had a pretty rough week, and she said this:
“It can be said that life is truly about the relationships we form along our way. No matter how many Instagram followers, twitter retweets, or Facebook friends we have, I always believe that if you have five really strong friendships you have the world!”
I thought that this was such a wise thing to say. Recently this quote came into my head again and I’ve come to realize that it really rings true. We worry about so many little things each day when those things end up not mattering at all in just a few years, months, weeks, days, or even hours. When we have a strong support system of friends and family who care about us and our best interests, we are truly unstoppable.
It’s important to remind ourselves just how blessed we are, and it doesn’t hurt to reflect on it every now and then. I am blessed because: I have people who love and care for me, I have a roof over my head, I have clean water to drink, I have healthy food to eat, I have an absolutely fantastic job that I love, I’m in college at the perfect school for me, and I have some of the most amazing friends in my life.
Without some of these friends, I don’t know how I’d get through life. I don’t talk about it very often, but I was bullied quite a bit when I was younger. In all honestly, I don’t think I’d be the person I am today without those experiences, and for that I am grateful.
I got through those difficult times because I have friends that I can count on. Those friends helped me to continue on past all the negativity I was surrounded by and the unkind words I had thrown at me. Without my friends, I really don’t know how I could have gotten through it all. I’ve found that with a little lot of perseverance and some support from a steady set of friends you can get through anything.
I am so blessed to say that according to these standards I have the world (and I know that not everyone can say that). I can only hope that everyone can feel the support of at least five really strong friendships during their life. It’s truly a feeling like no other. ♥
