Anyone who has visited Chicago has heard of Navy Pier, but not many people are familiar with their “Crystal Gardens.” This stunning greenhouse style garden features a fifty foot arched glass ceiling & numerous palm trees. It’s like a tropical escape in the middle of the city!

I’ve always loved the Crystal Gardens and I consider them one of many hidden gems in Chicago. People hold weddings and proms there, but on a regular day you can just walk in to stroll around or sit down to appreciate the natural light and beautiful greenery.
I’ll always associate the Crystal Gardens with one Navy Pier visit in particular, back when I was little. I remember going to Navy Pier during the winter of 2004 and visiting Build-a-Bear with my family, then going to see my very first IMAX movie (The Polar Express) and walking around in the Crystal Gardens afterwards while clutching my cardboard “house” with my new furry friend inside. It was such a fun day and for my 9-year-old self it was pure bliss.
I still visit the Crystal Gardens every time that I go to Navy Pier. I love to sit on one of the benches with a cup of coffee while taking in the tropical surroundings. It never gets old for me.
