I’m so excited to finally start sharing all of my photos from Banff today on the blog! This post was the very first outfit that I shot while I was in Banff and these photos were taken in the morning at Lake Louise. On this day, it was relatively cloudy so it was hard to fully appreciate the blue tones and reflecting quality that Lake Louise is known for. (But, don’t worry, we went back again the next day and got to get some “classic” Lake Louise pictures. Those photos will be up soon and they really capture just how drop dead gorgeous this spot is!)
On this day it was snowing and I felt like I was walking inside of a snow globe! At first it started off with flurries, but as soon as we finished shooting the snow really started to come down! We hadn’t gotten any snow yet in Chicago at this point, so to see all the flurries falling from the sky made it feel like Christmas had come early! My hair and eyelashes filled with snowflakes and then snow started to come down so heavily that it was almost hard to see. That whole day was like a mini blizzard and once the snow calmed down a bit I ended up walking through almost a foot of snow later that day when we went to Bow Lake!
– What I Wore –
Something Navy x Treasure & Bond Sweater ℅ Nordstrom – Ivory Mother of Pearl Necklace – Dainty Necklace – Primark Blanket Scarf (No longer available, similar style here.) – Kendra Scott Color Bar Earrings (Similar style.) – J. Crew Charcoal Pants – SOREL Boots ℅
This look was by far one of my favorites from the trip because I’m absolutely in love with this sweater from the Treasure & Bond x Something Navy collection from Nordstrom! I spoke briefly about the collection in one of my previous Friday Five posts and mentioned just how fast things had been selling out. This sweater was totally sold out for the first few weeks when the collection launched, but now it’s available in all the colors and in almost every size! I have it in the “beige oatmeal medium heather” but I also really want to get it in “pink parfait.” This sweater is one of the softest and coziest that I own and I like that it’s on the longer side. Note that it does run on the larger size, so although I’d typically buy a sweater of this style in a medium, but I ended up getting this one in a size small!
Another thing I love about this outfit is this scarf. My friend Emily got this scarf for me in Boston a few years ago for Christmas and I’ve yet to find another blanket scarf that’s quite as soft! The slightly muted cool tones are also very “me” so it’s one of my go-to scarves in the winter!
I was so happy that I packed my SOREL boots for this trip! These boots have a bit of a wedge to them, which I’m a fan of even if it doesn’t sounds like the most practical thing for the snow. However, in all honesty, they had fantastic traction on the snow and ice and I ended up grabbing these almost every day to wear around town and when we were going to be walking around for more extended periods of time! I wore my Bean Boots a lot too, but these definitely got the most wear while I was in Banff.
I was technically in Banff during “off-season,” but there were still so many tourist groups and families on vacation at all of the popular spots, especially Lake Louise! We shot a few looks at Lake Louise during our trip, but got there around 9am to make sure that we beat the majority of the crowd to get these photos without too many people around. That being said, one of the things that I think I loved the most about the whole trip was the sense of calm and serenity that could be found at various spots within nature. Not only was it quiet, almost everywhere you turned there was something breathtakingly beautiful to look at! Coming from the hustling and bustling city to this snowy wonderland was such a nice change of pace and even though some spots were still touristy, the snow ended up muffling a lot of excess noise when we were in these places.
Last but not least, let’s talk about these charcoal pants! Some people would call them leggings, and honestly I wouldn’t argue because they’re definitely in the middle between leggings and pants. I’ve been a fan of J.Crew’s pixie pants for ages because they are warm and so comfortable while still looking put together! When I was looking at the J.Crew site to link them I found that it looks like J.Crew has replace and revamped the pixie pant to come out with something called their “Any Day Pant in Stretch Ponté.” From what I can tell, the only real change between the two styles are in the waistband. Pixie pants had an elastic band at the waist and these new pants look like they’re all ponté, including the waistband. Once my pixies wear out, I’ll definitely be trying out the new style!
