I recently went through my closet to swap from spring/summer to fall/winter and I realized that I was really lacking when it came to basic tops and tees! The few basic tees that I had were YEARS old and on their last legs… So, when H&M was doing 20% off a few weeks ago I went a little crazy and decided to stock up on some affordable H&M basics while they were even cheaper than usual! These pieces aren’t on sale right now, but even so, every single piece in this post is $15 or under at full price! (They’re also all in stock right now!) I’m always a little cautious when it comes to less expensive pieces because quality, especially when it comes to basics, is very important to me. Below I’m sharing my thoughts on all the basics I grabbed. I also filmed some try-on videos for my Instagram, so be sure to check out my IG stories for those!
Ribbed Cotton T-shirt
Wearing a size Medium in Black. Price: $7.99 General Thoughts: I’ve already worn this tee twice since getting it in the mail! It’s a great length and decent thickness so it has nice structure to it and is great for wearing on its own or for layering. You can also wear it tucked in or out which makes it even more versatile and one of my must-have H&M basics. Highly recommend!
Rib-knit Top
Wearing a size medium in White. Price: $9.99 General Thoughts: So, I don’t love this one. It’s more cropped than I expected and I feel like I almost could have ordered a large. It rides up a bit in the back and the fabric is significantly thinner than the black short sleeved tee. I’m actually considering just ordering that other tee in white vs trying to make this one work. Also, definitely need nude undergarments with this top. Skip this one and get the last tee in white instead.
Ribbed Tank Top
Wearing a size medium in Black. Price: $12.99. General Thoughts: I wanted SO badly to love this one, but the fit is just a bit off for me. I like the length, but the arm holes are WAY too big when the shirt is pulled down to it’s full length. (Can you say side boob? No thanks.) I’ll probably try to shrink this one in the dryer because I love the thickness and feel of the fabric, but it’s just a little funky size wise for me. Would recommend, but size down.
Ribbed Jersey Top
Wearing a size medium in Black. Price: $14.99. General Thoughts: Okay, I LOVE these long sleeved tops! The thickness on these is perfect and the ribbed fabric allows for some nice stretch so your arms don’t feel like they’re in sausage casings. I got this shirt in grey too (shown below) and will probably order the white as well. One of my favorite H&M basics & 100% recommend!
Ribbed Jersey Top
Wearing a size Medium in Light Gray. Price: $14.99 General Thoughts: As mentioned above, love this top! I do prefer the black because it’s a bit more forgiving (as most black clothing is). I already know that I’ll be pairing this top with my black quilted J.Crew vest once the weather gets a bit cooler.
Relaxed Fit Sweatshirt
Wearing a men’s size XXL in Dark Blue Melange. Price: $14.99. General Thoughts: This is THE comfiest sweatshirt ever! On someone shorter than me, this could probably be worn as a sweatshirt dress. I’m 5’8″ though… so that’s not gonna work for me. The oversized sweatshirt + biker shorts trend finally got me! I know that I’ll be wearing this sweatshirt a bunch around my apartment over the next few months and probably pairing it with leggings as well. I think that this could also be really cute paired with some jean shorts and french tucked at the front.
Cotton Jersey Cycling Shorts
Wearing a size medium in Black. Price: $9.99. General Thoughts: I like these, but I really should’ve gotten a small! They’re a little to big in the butt for me which make them a little uncomfy feeling. Again, a piece that I’ll probably try to shrink in the dryer and see if that helps! Length is ideal though.
“love” Sweatshirt
Wearing an XXL in White/Love. Price: $9.99 General Thoughts: I ordered this sweatshirt after already owning a tee from the embroidered “love” collection that I really liked. This sweatshirt is definitely on the lighter weight side fabric wise, but it’s a great transitional layer as we switch between seasons. It’s also nice and soft on the inside. For $10, I’d recommend this one!
Cycling Shorts High Waist
Wearing a size medium in Black. Price: $5.99 General Thoughts: I’m actually wearing these as I type out this blog post! I like the fit on these a lot better than the other pair I got. They’re also short enough that you could easily wear them under a skirt or dress if you wanted some extra peace of mind on a windy day. Love these!
Let me know what you think of these try-on style posts and if you’ll be adding any of these affordable H&M basics to your wardrobe!
